Middle School Study Center staff/Outreach Group Facilitator
John XXIII Educational Center...1101 Douglas Avenue
This position assisting in developing and overseeing the Outreach Program of the center. Facilitating small groups of middle school students within their schools, establishing academic support programs particularly in after school study centers and investigating new SEL group relationships with area schools. It also involves academic support of middle school students with an emphasis on math skills covered in grades 5-12.
Responsibilities:
+ Promote/coordinate group scheduling with local middle schools
+ Implement and adjust curricula within local schools with small groups
+ Group Titles: Heartfulness (based on Mindfulness concepts)
Healing Gently 2022 (dealing with loss)
Superhero Skills (for boys and girls...separate curricula)
Justice 2022 (using non-violent techniques to restore justice)
Crossing the Bridge (making transitions..for ex. 5 to 6 or 8 to 9 gr.)
+ Investigate new relationships/curricula with schools concerning SEL programming for students and staff
+Be an active member of the John XXIII Educational team as a middle school study center staff member and/or resource
Competencies Needed:
+ Associate or Bachelor’s Degree preferably in an area related to social/emotional development
+ Teaching background or training not required but desirable
+ Previous experience working with young people is required
+ Able to positively relate to young people, especially middle school students
+ Understanding of social and emotional needs of middle school students
+ Ability to facilitate small groups in a positive manner
+ Ability to use word processing technology
+ Understanding of math of fifth through twelfth graders curriculum with the exception of pre-calculas or calculas.
+ Flexibility in work hours and adapting to various school climates in the community
Hours:
+ Will vary depending upon the day, for ex. Outreach groups could be various times between 9 and 3 pm, study center time would be 2:30-3:30 to 7/8 Monday through Thursday. Friday afternoons would generally be free.
+ 20-28 hours a week during the school year
+ Range of $16-$24 per hour based on experience
Job is scheduled to begin on Monday, January 9
