Job Summary
To perform skilled work in the installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of a wide variety of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment for all Racine County property.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform preventative maintenance on various equipment related to heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration systems, fuel and combustion systems, radiant heaters, chillers, air handlers, and other air conditioning units.
- Troubleshoot and make repairs to various equipment related to heating, ventilation, air conditioning systems and refrigeration equipment.
- Maintain, install and repair auxiliary equipment such as motors, pumps, fans, pipe systems, compressors, humidifiers, condensers, building automation HVAC controls, frequency drives and other pneumatic and electronic control units.
- Follow all maintenance schedules as related to the replacement of filters, lubricating motors and fans and belt replacement.
- Conduct chemical analysis on boiler water and hydronic systems adding correct proportions of treating chemicals to ensure proper operation.
- Inspect equipment for proper controls and make adjustments to the system as necessary to keep customers comfortable.
- Responsible for ordering and stocking parts that are related to HVAC systems and maintaining proper inventory of parts related to HVAC systems.
- Assist other trades as needed.
- Any other assigned duties as needed.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent and one year of post high school education at an accredited school.
- Three to five years experience in HVAC with a focus on commercial building HVAC systems.
- Current ASOPE FOE2 boilers license and city of Racine stationary engineers license, or the ability to obtain one within 6 months from date of hire.
- Current Type 1 and Type 2 or Universal EPA 608 license or the ability to obtain one within 6 months from date of hire.
- Current knowledge of EPA regulations as they pertain to documentation and reporting.
- Ability to read and comprehend building blueprints and building plans.
- Ability to use various computer systems to include but not limited to email, Microsoft Office and building automation computers.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively with all departments and staff.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Prompt and regular attendance.

Working Conditions
- Continuous (67-100% of workday): inside work, exposure to mechanical and electrical hazards, standing, lifting, carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 1-10 pounds, light handling and light to medium fingering.
- Frequent (34-66% of workday): outside work, exposure to noise and vibrations, working from heights above 12 feet from a ladder, climbing, ascending/descending ladders while carrying objects, hearing, use of near and far vision, bending/twisting, lifting and carrying objects weighing 11-20 pounds, pushing/pulling objects weighing 11-20 pounds, and medium handling.
- Occasional (1-33% of workday): chemical and burn hazards, exposure to dust and physically confined workspaces, walking, sitting, kneeling, stooping, crouching, balancing, reaching, feeling, talking, lifting, and carrying objects weighing 21-50 pounds, and pushing/pulling objects weighing 41-80 pounds on wheels, and high handling and fingering.
Equipment Used
Measuring and metering devices, hand tools, corded and cordless power tools, all other tools that are related to the HVAC field and commonly used in the HVAC industry, automobile, truck, breathing apparatus, and personal protection equipment.
