Job Summary

To assist the Superintendent and direct the Facilities Management staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in operating and maintaining buildings.
  • Assist in the inspection of all County facilities' interior and exterior components and equipment.
  • Schedule, instruct, supervise, and discipline employees, oversee employee records and conduct performance reviews.
  • Assist in preparation of plans, specifications, layouts, and bid solicitations for County facilities.
  • Develop, implement, monitor and maintain previous maintenance programs, building automation systems, card access systems, work methods and practices, and safety/operating standards.
  • Contact and coordinate with outside vendors, oversee contracted vendors for compliance.
  • Direct and assist Maintenance Supervisor or assist in performing duties in absence of Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Maintain records and prepare reports on maintenance and janitorial activities.
  • Represent Superintendent in his/her absence at meetings and functions.
  • Assist in the preparation of the division budget.

Receives supervision from the Facilities Management Superintendent.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field plus three (3) years of relevant supervisory/managerial facility maintenance work experience, OR a minimum of 60 credits towards a bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field, continued demonstrated progress toward earning a degree in the above field and five (5) years of relevant supervisory/managerial facility maintenance work experience. The degree and/or credits must be from an accredited college or university.
  • Prompt and regular attendance.
  • *Or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience, which provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities.

Physical Requirements

  • Continuous (67-100% of workday) hearing, and use of near vision.
  • Frequent (34-66% of workday) standing, sitting, talking, use of far vision, lifting objects weighing 1-10 pounds, light handling, and medium fingering.
  • Occasional (1-33% of workday) walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing, ascending/descending ladders, balancing, bending/twisting, reaching, feeling, lifting objects weighing 11-50 pounds, carrying objects weighing from 1 to 50 pounds, pushing/pulling object weighing from 1 to 50 pounds, medium to high handling, and light to high fingering.

Working Conditions

  • Continuous (67-100% of workday) inside work.
  • Occasional (1-33% of workday) outside work, extreme heat and cold with temperature changed, wet and humid conditions, exposure to noise and vibrations, exposure to hazards such as mechanical, electrical, chemical, burns, heights, fumes, odors, dust, poor ventilation, and physically confined worksite.
Equipment Use
Basic office equipment such as typewriter, calculator, copy machine, computer terminal, and fax machine; technical equipment such as camera, drafting, and measuring devices; hand tools such as hammers, power tools, and shovels/brooms; transportation vehicles such as automobile and truck; material handling equipment; first aid equipment; and personal protective equipment such as breathing apparatus, steel tip boots, hearing and eye protection, and gloves.
