Position Summary:
The Custodian supports the district’s day-to-day operations by maintaining a clean, sanitary, orderly and safe workplace. Custodians perform all aspects of cleaning operations related to building operation, but not limited to customer service, cleaning, minor maintenance, completing proper forms and schedules, operation of equipment in a safe manner. Custodians maintain an assigned cleaning area and perform to standards of care established by the Department of Facilities and Maintenance Services.
Essential Functions:
1. Cleans and sanitizes restrooms/bathrooms using predefined cleaning methods and procedures.
2. Cleans, dusts, and wipes furniture; sweep, mop, and/or vacuum floors; empty/clean trash and recycling receptacles; replace light bulbs; refill restroom dispensers.
3. Assists with the setup of facilities for meetings, classes, conferences, events, etc.
4. Strips, cleans, buffs and applies floor sealer and floor finish to hard surface floors, vacuum and shampoo carpets.
5. Uses and maintains assigned power equipment and hand tools; buffers, auto scrubbers, extractors, high pressure washers, high speed buffers and vacuums, brooms, mops, and squeegees for the cleaning and general maintenance of floors, walls, carpets, furniture, etc.
6. Washes walls and equipment; uses ladders when required in work assignments.
7. Locks and unlocks assigned buildings: secures building when facilities are not in use checking for unlocked doors and windows, report any unauthorized occupants, turn off lights.
8. Follows instructions regarding the use of chemicals and supplies.
9. Performs cleaning and related activities such as removing snow or debris from sidewalks and stairs using hand-operated tools or small power equipment.
10. Moves furniture, equipment, supplies and tools on an incidental basis.
11. Washes accessible interior and exterior windows. Cleans blinds. Launders cleaning rags and dust mops.
12. Attends to emergencies when necessary.
13. Handle recycling materials.
14. Assists in the instruction and supervision of student help.
15. Maintains a clean and organized storage area for cleaning equipment and supplies and keeps adequate stock of cleaning supplies.
16. Cares for lawns and shrubs; cleans sidewalks and driveways and removes ashes, snow, and ice.
17. Safely operates job related equipment.
18. Takes classes as required in cleaning methods and techniques, new products, First Aid, CPR, and working relationships.
19. Contributes to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.
20. Performs other duties as assigned that support the overall objective of the position and actively supports the RUSD Strategic Plan.

Ability to display necessary initiative and dependability to work alone or in groups. Must work safely and efficiently with all assigned equipment.
Good physical conditions, ability to lift 50 pounds on a repetitive basis and 75 pounds periodically, push and pull on repetitive basis, work in adverse weather conditions
