Educational Assistant Salary Schedule

54% (20.25 hr/week)

Part Time

Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Discusses assigned instructional materials with teacher to coordinate instructional efforts.
2. Plans, prepares, and develops teaching aids such as bulletin boards, art media, etc. under teacher's direction.
3. Presents subject matter to students utilizing a variety of methods and techniques.
4. Assists students individually or in groups with lesson assignments to present or reinforce learning concepts.
5. Distributes teaching materials to students.
6. Assists in keeping order in the classroom.
7. Supervise students during lunch, recess, and bus loading.
8. Assist in activities that promote understanding between school and community.
9. May supervise a classroom when a teacher is called away due to an emergency.
10. Devote attention to children needing discipline and special attention.
11. Send notes home with teacher's approval.
12. Escort students to and from class.
13. Assist the teachers in preparing and organizing instructional materials.
14. Track each student's progress to provide information to teachers for instruction/re-instruction.
15. Assist with supervision of field trips.
16. Assist with supervision during emergency situations.
17. Participates in inservice sessions in the building and at program levels.
18. May assist the office staff with processing calls, mail, etc.

Physical Demands:

· Must be able to spend up to 70% of the day walking.

· Able to walk or run quickly through hallways and stairwells in an emergency situation.

· Ability to stand for prolonged periods, respond to active crisis situations and support student movement.

· Ability to perform light physical work, frequently lifting up to 50 pounds without assistance

· Ability to communicate effectively on the telephone and in person to provide information and assistance

· Ability to move throughout the building and from building to building

· Dexterity and hand/eye coordination necessary to operate computer keyboard and other office equipment

· Hearing ability adequate to participate in numerous conversations throughout the day, both in person and over the telephone

· Ability to complete job activities in an environment where background noise and frequent interruptions are the norm

· Ability to maintain concentration and focus on tasks requiring timeliness and accuracy

Education/Training:
High school diploma or equivalent required. College course work leading to elementary teaching certification preferred.

Highly Qualified Requirement:
Highly Qualified is defined as either having completed higher education (with at least a two-year associate degree) or forty-eight (48) college credits. You can also be considered highly qualified by obtaining passing scores on the WorkKeys Proficiency Test (reading, writing and math). This requirement specifically applies to all educational assistants who work in an instructional support capacity at a building funded by federal Title I funds. If you have the completed the college credits, please forward your transcripts to the Human Resources Office.

Experience:
2-3 years working with elementary level students preferred.
