Job Summary

Provide telephone and mobile crisis intervention, crisis counseling, assessment and referral. Works closely with community providers, law enforcement, school personnel, clients, and families. Duties may include non-standard work weeks.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Receive intake crisis calls for Racine County Crisis Services.
  2. Provide telephone and mobile crisis intervention services to children, adolescents, adults, and families in the community.
  3. Interview clients and families to obtain mental health and/or AODA information and assess the needs of the individual and family.
  4. Complete in person assessments in the community, at the individual's residence, hospital, jail, school, or at the crisis office location.
  5. Develop crisis plans utilizing the strengths of the individual/family and available community resources to resolve the immediate crisis
  6. Facilitate follow-up interventions with the individual/family.
  7. Determine appropriate level of care during the crisis and arrange referrals.
  8. Represent the Human Services Department for approval of WI Stats., Ch. 51 emergency detentions.
  9. Testify during Probable Cause and/or Final Hearings when needed. Hearings may occur during off shift hours with advanced notice.
  10. Make intervention and assessment decisions using the “Best Practice” philosophy
  11. Work collaboratively with law enforcement, families, other county departments, schools, acute care services providers,and other community resources to coordinate appropriate crisis resolution and referral.
  12. Communicate pertinent information on a timely basis and participate in clinical supervision case reviews, staffing's, and/or case planning meetings.
  13. Complete all necessary health care/medical and financial record documentation required to maintain complete medical and financial billing records.
  14. Complete and coordinate appropriate and timely medical record documentation, which may include assessments, follow-up contacts, crisis plans, administrative, demographic, insurance, and financial information.
  15. Provide crisis therapy when indicated. (Only appropriately credentialed staff)
  16. Perform duties of an after-hours Adult Protective Services worker as prescribed under WI Stats., Ch. 55.043
  17. Attend quarterly all staff meetings. Meetings may occur during off shift hours with advance notice.
  18. Perform other duties as assigned, including responding to an emergency event





Supervision Received
Receives supervision from the Mobile Response Supervisor

Qualifications

  • Bachlors/Master's degree from an accredited college or university in social work or counseling
  • Two years of mental health or crisis services experience.
  • Valid Wisconsin driver's license and automobile insurance are required.
  • Prompt and regular attendance.

Knowledge Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of Chapters 51, 54, 55 and Mental Health.
  • Ability to respond to crises and to make appropriate assessments as to resolution.
  • Knowledge of community resources.
  • Ability to interact professionally with clients who may be challenging and potentially hostile.
  • Ability to think critically and problem-solve while completing assessments and developing safety plans with consumers.
  • Ability to work well with treatment team and community members.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing
  • Interacts with the public in a professional manner.
  • Must be able and willing to work nights, weekends, and holidays (rotating holiday schedule).
  • Ability to lift 20 pounds and walk up and down stairs

Fridays 11pm-9am
Saturdays 11pm-9am
Sundays 11pm-9am
Mondays 11pm-9am


*Pay differential (+$2.00/hour) offered for the following hours:
  • Weekday: Monday – Friday, 5pm - 7am
  • Weekend: Friday 5pm – Monday 7am
