Educational Assistant Salary Schedule
36.25 hours per week
Full Time
Experience:
Two (2) years of experience in working with students; higher preference will be for those with experience with students who require Special Education programming.
Certification:
State of Wisconsin, Special Education certification is required prior or after placement in the position. $100.00 for a five year license and renewals are necessary as long as you remain in Special Education.
CPI certification is required prior or after placement in the position by first available training session.
Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Primary responsibility is working with special education student(s) based on the needs outlined in the student(s)’ IEP (Individual Education Plan). When feasible, responsibilities would also include assisting other students as needed.
2. Provide information to teachers for instruction/reinstruction.
3. Work productively within students’ learning style(s).
4. Assist students individually or in groups with lesson assignments to present or reinforce learning concepts.
5. Anticipate students’ behaviors before they occur and intervene to stop potentially dangerous or injurious behaviors.
6. Assist in keeping order in the classrooms.
7. Assist with feeding needs of students as necessary.
8. Supervise student to and from class, during breakfast and lunch, recess, bus loading, and in emergency situations.
9. Consistently reinforce disciplinary and corrective guidelines. Assist teacher with behavioral objectives using de-escalation techniques.
10. Follow District procedures to implement seclusion and restraint using de-escalation techniques first as necessary per IEP.
11. Assist with promoting students’ participation in the classroom activities.
12. Provides the necessary support for primary personal and health care needs to students.
13. Must have Physical stamina, and be able to reach, stoop/kneel, crouch/crawl, push/pull, lift/carry, climb/balance, stand and walk constantly, and lift/carry up to 50 pounds.
Education/Training:
High school diploma or equivalent required. College course work leading to elementary teaching certification preferred.
Highly Qualified Requirement:
Highly Qualified is defined as either having completed higher education (with at least a two-year associate degree) or forty-eight (48) college credits. You can also be considered highly qualified by obtaining passing scores on the WorkKeys Proficiency Test (reading, writing and math). This requirement specifically applies to all educational assistants who work in an instructional support capacity at a building funded by federal Title I funds. If you have the completed the college credits, please forward your transcripts to the Human Resources Office.
