Position Purpose:
Provide guidance and support to a cohort team of teachers and 9th grade students.

Formal Education: High School diploma. Candidates with college credit in education and counseling preferred.

Experience: Experience working with adolescents in a support or supervisory capacity.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
? Knowledge of issues impacting teenagers and school performance.
? Applicants need to have the ability to communicate with students, parents, and educators.
? Must be organized, punctual, and use sound judgment.
? Ability to work with a diverse student population including variety of ages, cognitive abilities.
? Ability to deal with sensitive issues as they relate to different minority groups and socio-economic levels.
? Ability to assist in working with students on different multicultural issues as they relate to the understanding of the various cultural groups.
? Ability to empathize with students of different minority and socioeconomic backgrounds.
? Ability to deal with and monitor student behavior.
? Ability to maintain student confidentiality.
? Perform a variety of duties.
? Ability to take direction, learn quickly and work closely with the teacher and other team members.
? Experience working cross-culturally and/or commitment to work toward improving one’s own cultural competence, i.e. valuing difference/diversity, recognizing personal limitations in one’s skills and expertise, and having the desire to learn in these areas.
? Experience working with school age children.
? Prior experience working in a public school setting.
? Experience using e-mail, internet, and word processing programs.
? Familiarity with office equipment and personal computers.
? Fluency in Spanish. Candidates who are fluent in Spanish will be given greater consideration.

Essential Functions:
? Will act as a liaison between cohort teachers and office teams.
? Will assist in making parent contacts about grades and attendance.
? Will help students develop goals and plans.
? Will support school-wide issues like PBIS, academic support classes, and discipline initiatives. All other
duties as assigned.

Work Environment: Advocate will work in sub school or cohort office as assigned by the principal.
Busy office environment with multiple priorities and frequent interruptions.
