Key Responsibilities:

*1    Clean all areas of the building including but not limited to: Lobbies, Conference rooms, Restrooms, Elevators, Stairwells, Offices, Breakrooms, Treatment Rooms, Patient/Client rooms in hospital and residential, Classrooms, Copy rooms, Hotel rooms, Dining Room, Hallways, Laundry rooms, Therapy rooms, Dialysis, Pharmacy, Training areas, Day rooms, Gymnasium, and Auditorium.

*2    Maintain floors using dust mops, wet mops, brooms, floor scrubbers, vacuums, carpet cleaners, etc.

*3    Clean all surfaces within the building including but not limited to: Walls, Floors, Windows, Furniture, Bathroom surfaces, Doors, Light switch covers, Counters,  Garbage containers, Picture frames, Window sills, Cubicle and shower curtains, etc.

*4    Clean up hazardous spills using a spill kit.

*5    Collect and properly dispose of waste materials, hazardous materials, and recycling.

*6    Collect and properly handle soiled linen for in house laundering or for linen service.

*7    Properly segregate and launder items from any area of the building.

8    Properly put away deliveries of supplies or linens.

*9    Deliver linens to units following biosecurity practices.

10    Replenish bathroom supplies and respond to requests from other departments.

*11    Properly use, store, and maintain chemicals.

12    Report any chemical spills to Director of Environment of Care

*13    Use appropriate personal protective equipment as needed.

*14    Follow all infection control measures implemented by the facility.

*15    Terminally clean all patient rooms as they become available.

16    Fill out and properly file all housekeeping paperwork including but not limited to: Daily Task Sheets, Terminal Cleaning Checklist, Room Cleaned By Sign, Lint Log, Shower Curtain Log, etc.

17    Develop and maintain effective relationships and two-way communication with other departments.

18    Develop and maintain positive working relationships with others; support team to reach common goals.

19    Speak with others using clear and professional language.

20    Attend formal training/education to improve and/or advance position skills.

21    Report any non-compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations to supervisor.

22    Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Environment of Care.

23    May be trained as backup when the primary lead(s) are out of the building.

Qualifications:  

1.  Skill, Knowledge and Abilities: Attention to detail; Understand and follow written and verbal communications; Able to read and write in English; 

Understanding of difference between visibly clean and microscopically clean.  Ability to rotate shifts and days off as required to perform assignments.  

Ability to maintain confidentiality of clients.  Emotional stability necessary to perform essential functions in client areas.  Time management skills and 

ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision.

2.  Education:  Prefer high school diploma or equivalency.                                                

3.  Licensure:  None required.  Prefer Lysol, NEHA or Clorox training certification.                                        

4.  Experience:  Prefer - One year experience, preferably in a healthcare or hotel housekeeping or laundry setting.

6.  Exposure Categories:  Category I:  Tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues.                        

7.  Working Conditions:  Expected to work rotating days on/days off as well as extended hours as required to fulfill assignments.    

Performance Standards:    

1.  Observes all safety and infection control policies as they pertain to hazardous materials, soiled linen, waste handling and emergency preparedness.

a.  Utilizes proper body mechanics when lifting, pulling, carrying, etc.

b. Transports materials in covered containers.  Does not leave items in the hallway.

c.  Uses, stores, and handles chemicals safely.  Able to locate policies and procedures and SDS information. Demonstrates knowledge of how to properly use a spill kit.

d. Contributes to overall facility safety through participation in department & facility safety drills.  Knowledge of what to do in the event of a fire, blocked primary exit, tornado, or other emergency situation.

2.  Ensures an aseptic and odor free environment is maintained according to Housekeeping Cleaning Procedures. 

a. Thoroughly cleans all rooms/spaces/surfaces within assigned areas.

b.  Demonstrates knowledge and practice of cleaning and disinfecting per departmental Standard Operating Procedures.

c. Looks for and cleans areas that need improvement in sanitation.

d. Maintains clean and sanitary floors including changing mop water regularly.  Hallways are free of slipping and tripping hazards.

3.  Maintain Infection Control Practices and Procedures throughout assigned units.  

a.  Uses personal protective equipment when cleaning and in an isolation room. Adheres to policy and procedure for disposing of infectious and regular waste.

b. Follows mattress change procedure and demonstrates competency in terminal cleaning procedure including all paperwork.

c.  Demonstrates competency with all aspects of infection control, including proper hand washing, wearing and proper disposal of gloves, entering and exiting isolation rooms, and other steps to prevent the spread of infection. 

4.  Maintains adequate restroom and linen supplies in all assigned units.  

a.  Follows procedure for clean linen distribution.

b.  Assures that assigned areas are stocked early in the day with toilet paper, paper towels, and soap. Responds to requests for cleaning or supplies promptly and courteously.

c. Notifies lead housekeeper if supplies/linen are needed or are running low.  Follows procedure for checking out supplies.

5.  Behaves in a professional manner as demonstrated by interactions with patients, clients, visitors, departments, co-workers, and administration.

a.  Is courteous and compassionate with patients/visitors.  Treats others with dignity, integrity and cultural sensitivity. Maintains patient confidentiality at all times. Immediately turns in items found when cleaning to proper person.

b. Demonstrates effective communication and teamwork within and between departments.

c.  Treats others with respect and patience.  Speaks with others using clear and professional language.

d. Completes assigned tasks thoroughly within designated shift.  Demonstrates time management.  Cooperates in implementing new procedures.

6. To adhere to Lakeview Infection Control Policies and procedures, including, but not limited to, hand hygiene, isolation, and personal protective equipment (PPE).

a.    To complete Infection Control Orientation upon hire.

b.    To demonstrate hand hygiene and PPE competency upon hire and annually.

c.    To maintain Lakeview requirements regarding vaccination, including but not limited to Influenza and COVID-19.
