Job Summary

To provide supervision, support and linkage to consumers experiencing a mental health crisis. The SAIL Lead Worker gathers consumer data, provide general counseling, case management, and appropriate referrals to community resources, and performs other duties as assigned by the Racine County SAIL Program. The SAIL Lead Worker also provides guidance to other behavioral health specialists.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Be knowledgeable in the activities of the Racine County SAIL Program and of emergency mental health diversion decisions.
  2. Ability to make decisions as it relates to the admissions process and paperwork for the SAIL program.
  3. Support consumers participation in a treatment plan and demonstrate the ability to describe basic services to consumers, discussing goals and objectives of treatment plans.
  4. Observe consumer physical, mental, and emotional conditions and report changes as required to the SAIL Supervisor and documents same in consumer electronic chart.
  5. Gathers data from consumer/family interviews, past records, other information to gain understanding and verification of previous diagnosed disorders and treatment episodes.
  6. Documents all activities to ensure compliance with County, State and Federal requirements.
  7. Develops and assists in the implementation of Crisis or Response Plans within the SAIL program.
  8. Answer phones and respond to requests for information or crisis services.
  9. Maintain individual dignity and exercises courtesy when assisting/working with people.
  10. Is responsible for assessing suicide risk and appropriate crisis intervention.
  11. Is responsible for working both independently and cooperatively with others to accomplish objectives.
  12. Know and observe the rules of confidentiality both within work hours and outside of work.
  13. Transport consumers per Racine County SAIL program policy/protocol.
  14. Performs additional responsibilities or duties delegated to him/her by the Racine County SAIL Supervisor. These duties may not be specifically provided in the job descriptions, but hey may be deemed necessary for the overall achievement of the program goals and objectives.
Supervision Received
Receives supervision from the SAIL supervisor and house manager.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree in social work, human services, psychology or related degree required. A minimum of one year of experience providing mental health services preferred.
  • Valid Wisconsin driver's license and proof of insurance
  • Prompt and regular attendance.

Knowledge Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to use good judgment, make quick decisions, good problem-solving skills, and a deep reservoir of common sense.
  • Ability to use critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to read, speak, write, and understand English.
  • Ability to supervise and communicate to developmentally disabled, mentally ill consumers, or those with alcohol or drug dependency.
  • Ability to manage stress appropriately.
  • Ability to maintain self-composure and self-control while working with consumers with challenging or aggressive behaviors.
  • Ability to delegate tasks to other workers.
  • Ability to communicate responsibly with the SAIL Supervisor.
  • Ability to plan for the future for the SAIL Program regarding templates, procedures, organization, future endeavors, etc.
  • Possesses knowledge of community resources.
  • Possess awareness and basic knowledge of DSM V and DHS Chapters 34, 51, 54/55, 48, and 94.
